Lovely Probably Couple

by: Sterling Dunson

Materials:
Wacom Cintiq 21ux
Paint Tool Sai
Adobe Photoshop

This piece was created in three hours. I absolutely hated those three hours. I finally wanted to try a more realistic style of painting graphically, so I went to Google Images and went to work.(Link to picture here: https://goo.gl/EikZAZ) Looking at it after it being finished I don't really like the way it came out. To me it looks pretty bland and I can't stop thinking that I could do better. I rather prefer to draw cartoons than something like this, but I need to start learning more and more about art, so I'm going to continue to make more in this style. For now. Stay tuned for the future.

Sterling Dunson
9th grade
"Homework Trilogy"
Watercolor paint
Watercolor paper

These pictures were for the last Fine Arts project for school (picture 1 and 2 had experienced technical difficulties) these hurried pictures express my hatred and sadness when doing homework and makeup work. I'm mostly proud of the third picture. Hopefully people can understand the thoughts that go through our minds when we're doing 12 step math problems or reading two paragraph definitions from the dictionary.

William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare
9th Grade
Watercolor Paint

For this project, I tried to be as realistic as possible using watercolor paint and pencils. I have to say I am not too happy with it. I didn't feel very creative while doing it since I couldn't paint anything random and stupid, but I am proud of how much I've improved from the last pictures. This was rushed because of some misunderstandings with the due date, which is the reason there are no backgrounds, but the best I could do. Hopefully the next painting I can have more creative control, but whatever it is I'm going to make it better than all the other ones.

City LandScape

This picture was made in a week to practice background painting. Since lights look a lot more cooler to me than just plains of grass or a river, I chose to paint Atlanta City in a landscape view. My painting skills are still horrible, I am not very proud of this.

Too Cool to Eat
Sterling Dunson

9th Grade
Nasco Painting Canvas
Acrylic paint

This piece of art means... nothing. I drew it because i wanted to draw it. Painting it, though wasn't my cup of tea. I like to draw random and silly stuff. It helps me open up my imagination. This wasn't my MOST creative  piece of art, but it was fun drawing it. I keep drawing because it's the only time i get to know and talk about personal problems to myself without feeling insane. This actually might be a problem. People say that I'm very talented and i should never stop. If those people never told me that, then i would still be drawing, but I most likely wouldn't have considered it as a career or be in the Fine Arts program.

The artwork I chose to critique is called Egun Dance 2. This was made by Fahamu Pecou. Made on August 26-October 8 2016. Made with nothing, but graphite and acrylic on paper.  Seeing that most of his art centered around beautiful black women, I'm assuming that this is an Indian/African woman dancing at a cultural event.

The artwork's color is pretty simple, just a black outline and orange acrylic paint. No colors are repeating, and there are no signs of connections of anything. The picture is pretty flat. But I personally chose this because of the illustration to me symbolizes old ritual drawings back in B.C.  I believe that the painting symbolizes the dancer trying to to talk to their deceased ancestors by spiritually summoning them with their dance.

I think the artist was trying to bring the art style back from long ago, when the Indians used paint and dancing to pray and celebrate. The writing on it's clothes remind me of old Indian rituals. I believe that the painting symbolizes the dancer trying to to talk to their deceased ancestors by spiritually summoning them with their dance.

His other work shows a lot of other Indian/African women and things of that culture. That's all that really relates. The artwork doesn't really move me in a way, it just makes me feel good and i just plain like it. I'm going to try to imitate his style, maybe it'll help my painting skills. I can't say anything else that isn't positive about this piece of art work. It's bland, but, "less is more".
